Italy has been the home of some great civilisations, the first being the Etruscans in about 800 BC. They built cities in central Italy that still exist today. By 600 BC the Etruscans controlled central Italy including Rome. However in 510 BC the Romans rebelled and conquered Etruscan territory taking the last Etruscan city in 265 BC.
