Belgium Overview

Initial thoughts may not put Belgium high on a list of holiday destinations. However, when given a second thought, there is much of interest to see and enjoy in this relatively small country.

For history lovers, Belgium is a part of Europe that has seen more military action than virtually anywhere else. The country is littered with famous battlefields from the time of France’s Louis XIV and Napoleon as well as both World Wars. Battlefield sites at both Waterloo and Ypres are favourite places to visit for the British and members of other Commonwealth Countries.

Fine cities with wonderful architecture which are all worth seeing adorn the western portion of Belgium, a legacy of the Medieval Days of Flemish Cloth which created fabulous wealth for the traders of the area. This is frequently demonstrated by an impressive building called a Cloth Hall in many of these cities. And if all that is not enough, Belgium is also thought of as the home of the Chocolatier.

Belgium is quite surprising; there is plenty to do and see; food is generally good; and there is an abundance of variety of accommodation.
