Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The northern section of the lake juts into the Alps and provides dramatic scenery and even winter skiing, while the southerly portion is in more open country and provides the main tourist resorts in the area close to the ancient (Roman) town of Sirmione.
One of the great attractions of Lake Garda is that it provides something for everyone.
